FOR PUBLISHERS—LARGE PRESS & SMALL PRESS

Tipsy Nerds Book Club is playful and entertaining, but serious about its mission to spread our passion for great stories. We would love to help you spread the word about the next great Science Fiction or Fantasy book that you’re publishing.

How can Tipsy Nerds Book Club (TNBC) help me spread the word about our/my book?

Though TNBC mainly features books on the NPR Top 100 Science Fiction & Fantasy books list, we reserve several episodes each season for new and notable books. If we choose to feature your book, the entire episode will be dedicated to discussion of your book. Additionally, the Tipsy Nerds will recreate a cocktail from the book, or if there is no cocktail in the book, we will create one inspired by or thematically tied to the book. And the best part: the author will be a guest for the entire episode.

This is a 45-minute to one-hour long commercial for your book!

The Tipsy Nerds will interview the author while the hosts and author drink the cocktail specially crafted for the episode. Since the Tipsy Nerds only choose books for their “New and Notable” slots that they love, the episode will be positive and serve as an endorsement of the book.

Once the episode airs, it will be posted on the TNBC website, iTunes, Spotify, SoundCloud, Google Play, Stitcher and on Alexa (just say “Alexa, play Tipsy Nerds”). The website post will include a beautiful photo of the drink and prominent display of the book cover along with the drink recipe, show notes and transcript. For examples, please see our Episodes Page.

The publisher/author will receive links or copies of all of the materials, including an audio file of the show, photograph of the drink, show notes and transcript, and are free to use these materials across all media (provided proper attribution to TNBC is given). (TNBC reserves all rights to audio, video, recipes, and any other materials created and permission is limited to promotion of the book discussed in the given episode.)

TNBC also posts each episode liberally across its social media, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram as well as the media of the show hosts. If your book is chosen for an episode, the cover and author photograph will be featured in the media with purchase links (these will be affiliate links—please see our affiliate notice).

How can I get my book featured on TNBC podcast?

We love to help our audience discover new, amazing stories! We would love to feature every book submitted, but TNBC has no more than one spot available for a New and Notable book for every five episodes, so not every book submitted will be chosen.

This is what we’d love to see:

  • Science Fiction, Fantasy and associated sub-genres (such as cyberpunk, urban fantasy, etc.)

  • First in a series.

  • Character-driven stories. Robyn and Natalie both love stories with unforgettable characters. We want to read stories that make us feel! Our favorites list may give you a feel for our tastes:

    • Robyn’s favorites: Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones.

    • Natalie’s favorites: The Wheel of Time, Wool, 1984, The Hunger Games, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, The Night Circus, The Mists of Avalon, Contact, Bladerunner 2049.

  • Since the “Top 100” list we’re working our way through is not very diverse, we like to add diversity via our New and Notable picks. Therefore, we give priority to stories that add interest and diversity to our show.

  • Exceptionally well-written and edited. Our show features the “Top 100”, so any book we feature has to stand up against works by writers such as LeGuin, Tolkien, Asimov, Willis, Martin, Dick, Zimmer Bradley, and the like.

What we do NOT want:

  • Erotica

  • Non-Fiction

  • Historical Fiction, Romance, Literary Fiction, Juvenile Fiction, or any genre other than that which can fit within the umbrella of Fantasy & Sci-Fi

  • If the book has rape, bestiality, or pedophilia, we will likely not choose the book

  • A book with typos, inconsistencies, poor editing, mediocre writing, predictable and/or rushed endings, books that read like a redux of best selling/popular stories. We want something that is authentic, original and fresh.

  • Self-Published/Independently Published/Vanity Press books. If you’re an Indie author, don’t despair. We have a place for you to get some attention to your new release. Check out our advertising opportunities page here.
